The main city in Western Norway is Bergen - a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and World Heritage Site with a rich cultural life. The architecture is influenced by its Hanseatic heritage as well as neo-classicism, with landmark hints of functionalism, art nouveau, and brutalism.

North of Bergen, Ålesund (pictured on the right) has one of the world’s most concentrated collections of Art Nouveau architecture, and a spectacular setting between islets, mountains, and fjords.
