Ex Machina
Locations that inspire
The Academy Award-winning Ex Machina has achieved cult-classic status, and catapulted Norwegian architecture and the locations in Western Norway to global fame.
Set in Alaska, Boosting Tourism in Norway
Directed by Alex Garland and starring Oscar Isaacs, Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson, Ex Machina was shot at Juvet Landscape Hotel, the surrounding Valldal Valley and at Nigard Glacier in Luster. Although the story is set in Alaska (and California), media, film critics and cineasts around the world quickly discovered the real setting.
As a direct result of the increased demand from Ex Machina tourists, the hotel expanded its capacity and season.
Google Trends show a clear correlation between Ex Machinaโs release date in April / May 2015, and global Google searches for the Juvet Landscape Hotel.
International media like The Independent, Vanity Fair, Business Insider, Metro and thousand of others reported from the locations, and Juvet Landscape Hotel quickly became a fixed feature on lists of top filming locations to visit, as well as in architectural magazines. The hotel was even featured on Simpsons!
Social media users were also all over Ex Machina and its Norway setting. Scroll down to discover the conversation.
