Rita Osei's Bliss! - shot on location in South Shields, Bergen, Fjærland and Flåm - will have its World Premiere on Sunday June 19th at the 70th Edinburgh International Film Festival, screening in the Best of British section.
The feature debut of Rita Osei, Bliss! is an ambitious and engaging new film, featuring young talent, a striking vision and a desire to tell a raw and honest story. After several weeks of filming in Northeast England, Osei turned to Western Norway to shoot the final scenes.
Bliss! is produced by Rita Osei for Sugar & Water Films, Alan Latham and GSP Studios, with Njål Lambrecht's Blinkfilm AS providing production services in Norway. Rita Osei has penned the script together with Jenny Wilkes and Writers Guild Award winner Alex Ferguson.
The cast includes Freya Parks as Tasha Robson (Jane Eyre, Les Miserables), Montserrat Lombard, David Leon, Reece Noi, as well as Norwegian actors Lars Arentz-Hansen and Gitte Witt.
The Edinburgh International Film Festival will comprise a total 161 features from 46 countries including: 22 world premieres, five international premieres, 17 European premieres and 85 UK premieres
A teenage girl sets out to try and find her father.
The delicate and thoughtfully crafted story of 16-year-old Tasha Robson (delightfully played by Freya Parks) who sets off on an epic journey to find her father, the man she has only ever known as “The Viking”.
Leaving her troubled family and friends in South Shields, she boards a ferry and heads to Scandinavia on a rite of passage journey that will see her eventually make her way to Norway.
