Norwegian Film Industry at a Glance
Norway produces between 20 and 30 films annually, enjoying a market share of 20-25% out of the approximately 12 million theatrical admissions. Since 2005 the Goverment support for Norwegian cinema has increased significantly, and Norwegian film production now receives about €65 million in subsidies through the national film institute and 13 regional film centres and film funds.
In recent years international sales has gone up 600% led by cultural phenomenas such as Dead Snow (2009) and Troll Hunter (2010), festival titles such as Oslo, August 31st (2011) and the wave of nordic noir crime thrillers such as the Jo Nesbo adaptation Headhunters (2011).
Norway is a member of the European co-production fund EURIMAGES, and November 1st 2009 the European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production entered into force.
