Arthaus - the art film foundation was established August 19th 1992 by the Norwegian Federation of Film Societies. The purpose of the foundation is to improve the conditions for artistically valuable films in Norway, among other things by importing and distributing films for screening in cinemas and film societies, and by spreading knowledge and information about film as an artistic and cultural medium. The foundation is non-commercial.

SF Norge was established in 1989. Together with Svensk Filmindustri in the other Scandinavian countries, SF Norge i part of Bonnier Media Group, the leading media conglomerate in Scandinavia. SF Norge is the biggest film distributor in Norway, handling the sale of films to retail and rental market in addition to distributing theatrical films to Norwegian cinemas. SF Norge distributes for 20th Century Fox, one of the major international film companies, from the company's own production department and it has also distribution contracts with New Line Cinema, Revolution Studios and other independent production companies. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is a motion picture and television feature distribution company owned by The Walt Disney Company. The company distributes all features produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, ABC Studios (formerly Touchstone Television), Miramax Films, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, DisneyToon Studios and several small independent companies which employ Disney to distribute their films, such as Spyglass Entertainment. Buena Vista International was the international distribution arm, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment was the firm's video and DVD distribution arm. However, in April 2007, Disney decided to retire the Buena Vista brand.
